Evolution of the European chemical sector (2007)
Reckon LLP was commissioned by the Consultative Commission on Industrial Change (CCMI) of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) to prepare a report of the evolution of the European chemical industrial sector over the last five years. As part of the study a public hearing was held in Dresden where the draft report was presented. The CCMI has drafted an information report on the sector and it is partly based on the Reckon study and the Dresden hearing.
The Reckon report discusses the evolution of the sector in terms of the following:
- Production quantities — both in terms of volume and value — from an absolute point of view and in terms of worldwide production.
- Distribution of production across the different subdivisions of chemicals.
- Level of technology of products, taken to mean the level of R&D spending.
- Employment levels, in terms of absolute numbers, ages and degrees of qualification of workers.
- Geographical distribution of production.
- Levels, destinations and sources of foreign direct investment.
The study was also presented to the European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation (EMCEF) at its 2nd Thematic conference.
