OFT rewards for snitching on cartels

OFT information (about 5 pages) on its new policy to offer rewards of up to £100,000 to informants who give inside information useful to the OFT in identifying cartels. Rewards will be at the discretion of the OFT after it sees the information: “we won't bargain over how much will be paid – but we do aim to pay a fair price”.

The page does not say whether OFT will publish any information about the amounts that have been paid to informants.

The rewards policy does not apply to cases of abuse of a dominant position or to unduly restrictive vertical agreements, despite OFT's interest in pursuing more abuse cases.
