Security of electricity supply in Northern Ireland

NIAER information paper (PDF, 7 pages) on electricity generation security of supply in Northern Ireland between 2008 (when the Kilroot plant may close as a result of stricter sulphur oxide pollution rules, if the NIAER-supported objection to planning permission for the installation of desulphurisation plant is successful) and 2012 (when sufficient interconnector capacity with the Republic of Ireland is to become available). The paper proposes a tender process run by the system operator SONI for additional generation to operate from 2008.
