Lords Committee on Regulators wants to quantify impacts
Additional call for evidence (3 pages, PDF) from the House of Lords Select Committee on Regulators seeking information on the extent to which the impact of the Competition Commission, OFT, FSA, Ofcom, Ofgem, Ofwat, ORR, CAA ERG, Pensions Regulator and Postcomm on "the UK economy" can be quantified. The committee seeks, in particular, quantification of the benefits of promoting competition and of the costs of economic regulation. It also asks:
Can the continued existence of economic regulators be justified on the grounds that the continuing benefits they provide exceed the costs they incur in their own operations and the costs they impose on the businesses they regulate?
