GNER wins East Coast franchise

SRA announcement (2 pages, PDF) that GNER (Sea Containers) has been awarded a seven-year franchise to continue operating its East Coast Main Line services. The benefit to taxpayers is a stream of premium payments amounting to £1,300 million over the course of the franchise. Headline benefits for passengers include a £75 million refurbishment of the HST fleet and a £25 million station refurbishment.
