Electricity prices for energy intensive industries in Sardinia
DG Competition notice (6 pages, PDF) that it is investigating a proposed preferential electricity tariff for Euroallumina, ILA, Portovesne and Sundial, which are energy intensive users in Sardinia, Italy. The reduced electricity prices to these users would be paid for by a levy on all electricity customers. Although Sardinia qualifies for the Article 87(3)(a) justification for State aid, the Commission expresses doubts as to the necessity and proportionality of this aid to meet the Article 87(3)(a) regional development purpose.
