Funding for electricity transmission capacity to Scottish isles

Ofgem consultation (6 pages, PDF) on a request by Scottish and Southern Energy for its regulated transmission charges (which are recovered from all users of the GB transmission system through National Grid charges) to be increased to fund connections to new generations on the Scottish islands. The consultation relates only to the Western Isles: consideration of a connection to Shetland is being held up by “legal issues” about licensing of cables outside the internal waters of Great Britain.

Ofgem proposes to allow the price control adjustment (no indication of its size is given), postponing any implementation of its ideas for tendering arrangements.
