Incentives for SP Transmission to reduce SF6 emissions

Ofgem consultation (8 pages, PDF) on proposed terms for an incentive scheme designed to encourage SP Transmission to reduce sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) emissions.

SF6 is a greenhouse gas not covered by the EU emissions trading scheme. It is used as an insulating gas in switchgear: emissions are from leaks.

An incentive scheme was included in the licence conditions agreed after the review of the transmission price control from 2007 but its parameters were originally set to zero.
