Competition Commission confirms Scottish Citylink divestment

Competition Commission decision (8 pages, PDF) confirming its October 2006 decision that the Stagecoach/Scottish Citylink joint venture must divest some coach services in order to remedy the substantial lessening of competition arising from the combination of the Scottish coach operations of Stagecoach (including Megabus) and ComfortDelGro (Citylink). This is on the grounds that the representations made since the final report do not “manifest a material change of circumstances or special reason enabling the CC to derogate from its duty of consistency”.

A letter from the chief executive (5 pages, PDF) summarises the process and the legal position, and explains the Competition Commission's view that its decision-making process is transparent and that it is sufficiently accountable to MPs and MSPs.
