Partial review of FirstGroup bus fares regulation in Scotland

OFT press notice reporting that FirstGroup plc has requested the removal of the system of regulation of its bus fares in parts of Central and Lowland Scotland. The undertakings were formally obtained in 2002 by the Secretary of State, following her 1998 decision to seek behavioural remedies instead of the divestment recommended in the 1997 report of the Monopolies and Mergers Commission on the acquisition of S B Holdings Ltd (Strathclyde Buses and Kelvin) by FirstGroup plc.

The OFT press notice makes no mention of the separate undertakings (39 pages, PDF) on bus fares in Scotland given by FirstGroup plc in 2004 following its acquisition of the Scotrail passenger rail franchise.

Short consultation period: responses by Thursday 26 January 2006.
