Interim report on Severn Trent Water whistleblower case

Ofwat interim report (53 pages, PDF) on allegations about false reporting of information by Severn Trent Water. The report does not cover the reliability of leakage data, which has been referred to the Serious Fraud Office for investigation.

The report finds that deliberately miscalculated or poorly supported regulatory data were provided by Severn Trent, which if undiscovered would have led to customers being overcharged by around £42 million by 2009/2010. The company has agreed to return this amount to customers over the next three years. Ofwat states that it believes the findings are sufficiently serious to warrant a further reduction in the company's price limits as a penalty.
