Competition Commission assessment of its impact

Competition Commission paper (6 pages, PDF) estimating that the harm avoided thanks to its action in 2006/2007 amounted to £3.8 million a year for mergers (of which £0.8 million is said to be attributable to the OFT's work), and £103.5 million a year for market investigations. The paper reports the result of multiplying these annual estimates by a factor of three as “detriments to consumers arising from competition problems typically last for more than one year”.
