BBC Governors Radio Archive Consultation

Consultation paper (21 pages, PDF) from the BBC Governors concerning proposals to make the BBC's archive of radio programmes more widely available, through: (i) joint ventures; and (ii) licensing of radio content to commercial radio networks. The document includes details of the BBC management's proposed guidelines for licensing programmes from the BBC radio archive. For instance, the licensed content would be made available on commercial terms on a non-exclusive basis and would be limited to ("linear") broadcast purposes and therefore not available for on-demand services. The document also states that "Overall, the proposal is not expected to have a significant [negative] impact on the market" and that the BBC Governors are not proposing to undertake a fuller assessment of this impact.

Update. The consultation closed on 25 November 2005 and the BBC Governors released an update on the consultation in December 2005.
