Expected (Northern Ireland): Devolution
The Northern Ireland Assembly elected on Wednesday 7 March 2007 is expected to acquire devolved legislative powers on Tuesday 8 May 2007, with a "power sharing" executive.
The UK government had offered financial inducements for devolution including the possibility of a delay in the introduction of water charges for households. The Belfast Telegraph reports that the introduction of the charges has been postponed at least to the putative devolution date.
