DTI simplification plan

Better regulation simplification plan (71 pages, PDF) of the Department of Trade and Industry. The Companies Act 2006 (760 pages, 2.7M PDF) is claimed as a source of "significant savings for business".

The major planned claimed reduction in administrative burden in respect of consumer regulation are the implementation of the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (replacing several existing pieces of consumer law), planned reductions in trading standards retail enforcement, and planned removal of rules for consumer credit. The only substantive plan in the area of competition policy is a Competition Commission project "in early stages of development" to implement a "lean" process for some merger inquiries.

DTI also piublished the final report (22 pages, PDF) of a better regulation project for energy.
