Stagecoach retains South West Trains and Island Line

Department for Transport announcement that Stagecoach has won the South Western passenger rail franchise. The profile of premium payments (said to amount to £1,191 million NPV over the 10 year planned length of the franchise) does not appear to have been released.

Stagecoach already runs these services under the South West Trains and Island Line franchises. Under Section 66(3) of the Railways Act 1993 the transaction nevertheless qualifies for merger control. No decision has yet been issued on the OFT website.
