Health Committee inquiry on NHS co-payments and charges

Health Select Committee press notice announcing an inquiry into charges made by the NHS for certain treatments (e.g. prescriptions, dentistry and optical services) and for certain amenities (e.g. for TV and telephone and car parking services at some hospitals). Within the scope of understanding the rationale of such charges, the terms of reference for the inquiry include the tasks of considering whether the charges are equitable and appropriate; what their optimal level should be; whether the system is sufficiently transparent; what criteria should determine who should pay and who should be exempt; how should relevant patients be made aware of their eligibility for exemption. Submissions by Wednesday 7 December 2005. Evidence sessions likely to commence in January 2006.
