European Commission press release on FAPL rights case

European Commission press release announcing that it has received commitments from the Football Association Premier League (FAPL) in relation to the Commission's investigation under Article 81 of the FAPL's sale of live TV rights. The FAPL proposes (i) to offer six balanced packages with no bidder allowed to win more than five; and (ii) that each package will be awarded in response to stand-alone bids (effectively preventing bids that are conditional on winning multiple packages). The Commission intends to prepare a draft decision to make the commitments legally binding, which would be sent to national competition authorities for consultation. The Commission expects to issue a final decision no later than the first quarter of 2006.
