Article 10
Article 10 EC provides for a general duty of EU member states to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the European Community.
This article is numbered 10 in the 1997 consolidated version of the EC Treaty. It was Article 5 in the 1957 Treaty of Rome.

The duties, which apply to national courts as well as to administrative bodies, are:
- to "take all appropriate measures to ensure fulfilment of the obligations arising out of this Treaty or resulting from action taken by the institutions of the Community";
- to "facilitate the achievement of the Community's tasks" (see Article 3); and
- to "abstain from any measure which could jeopardise the attainment of the objectives of this Treaty".
