Article 31

Article 31 EC is a free trade provision, requiring amongst other things that State monopolies "of a commercial character" must not lead to discrimination against nationals of other member states.

This article is numbered 31 in the 1997 consolidated version of the EC Treaty. It was Article 37 in the 1957 Treaty of Rome.
