Articles 28-30

Articles 28 to 30 EC are the core free trade provisions of the EC Treaty, prohibiting quantitative restrictions on imports and exports within the European Union except where justified under Article 30 on a range of grounds including the protection of industrial property or public health.

These articles are numbered 28 to 30 in the 1997 consolidated version of the EC Treaty. They replace Articles 30 to 36 of the 1957 Treaty of Rome.

See also Article 31, which places restrictions on the behaviour of State monopolies "of a commercial character".
