Regulation 1228/2003

Regulation (EC) No 1228/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council of the European Union, made on 26 June 2003, effective from 1 July 2004, imposes directly effective rules on cross-border trade in electricity in the European Economic Area.

It also introduces some constraints on transmission charging policies within national systems.

The annex (on interconnector congestion management) was replaced by Regulation 770/2006 (7 pages, PDF) with effect from 1 December 2006.

Council Regulation 1223/2004 (2 pages, PDF) postponed to 1 July 2007 the full application of these rules to Slovenia.

The European Commission has proposed amendments to this regulation in September 2007.
