Office of Fair Trading (OFT)
The OFT is the UK's main competition law and consumer law enforcement authority. It is responsible for:
- the first stage of merger control;
- alongside sectoral regulators, for the public enforcement of the Competition Act 1998, the Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 and other competition and consumer protection laws and for making market investigation references under the Enterprise Act 2002; and
- alongside sectoral regulators and the European Commission, for the public enforcement of Article 81 and Article 82.
